Description
Except to say that it was acquired in a family sale some years ago, this Civil War vintage identification badge is best described here by our illustrations. This identification badge bears the rather haphazardly but clearly period markings J. BARRY 37 NYV B . James Barry was 22 years of age when he enlisted and mustered in on October 9, 1861 as a private of Co B 37th N Y V ( ‘Irish Rifles’ ). Promoted to Corporal on January 16, 1863, Barry is recorded to have been wounded at Chancellorsville on May 3,1863. He mustered out with the regiment on June 22,1863.
