Delicate when they were new with their fine hand cut teeth, a good complete example of the original personal size cow horn hair comb is a tough order to fill. This one is approximately 5 7/8 inches in length and remains in pleasing condition with no missing teeth and a well patinated as evidence of age and originality. Unlike some of the finer ladies combs that frequently got put away as a personal memento the common man's hair and beard comb generally got 'used up' in the period seldom lingering into current times. A neat item for the Civil War era personal grouping.
