The period iron camp skillet and forged spatula were staples of the Civil War camp fire that will be familiar to relic diggers (see: Philip’s Excavated Artifacts from Battlefields & Campsites of the Civil War) but is seldom a survivor in other than relic condition. This exception remains in excellent original condition even retaining a telltale cooked on patina accumulated from long ago use over the open fire. This pair came together and we felt they should stay together. The all original period fry pan and forged iron spatula are of classic construction. The pan with a formed sheet iron body and iron riveted, blacksmith forged, handle with that curled rat-tail eye at it’s tip that is so indicative of these cooking utensils. (see example from the Confederate blockade runner Modern Greece in Plate 120 of the Philips reference) The pan measures approximately 11 1/8 inches in diameter from lip to lip with 13 3/8 inch handle. A real prize! As with all direct sales, we are pleased to offer a no questions asked three day inspection with refund of the purchase price upon return as purchased! Thanks for visiting Gunsight Antiques !
