Best described here by our illustrations this just pre Civil War postal cover offers an old collection pencil noted date of 1860 and bears the brown ink penned address: Mrs. Fanny Chamberlain in care of Prof. J. L. Chamberlain, Brunswick, Maine.
A graduate of Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Joshua L. Chamberlain was a professor there beginning in 1858 serving in that capacity until entering Civil War service as Lt. Colonel of the 20th Maine in August, 1862. Col. Chamberlain was in command of the hard fought 20th Maine at Gettysburg where he won the Congressional Medal of Honor for action on the slopes of Little Round Top. A nice pre Civil War relic of the Maine hero. As with all direct sales, we are pleased to offer a no questions asked three day inspection with refund of the purchase price upon return as purchased! Thanks for visiting Gunsight Antiques !
