Sealed in its original display frame this antique needlework collar relic offers a stitched on age faded but still legible paper label identifying the piece as having been: Worked by ROSANN MILLINER FAIRFAX while in Boarding School in London, England between the years 1815 – 1817 At one time likely prepared for local Historical Society or museum display as the tag advised : Loaned by Mrs. F. Hardison. Rosann Milliner was born in 1796 thus she was 19 to 21 years of age when she completed the young ladies finishing school needle work project. Rosann Milliner married British aristocrat George Fairfax (direct descendant of Sir Thomas Fairfax, the first Lord) when she completed finishing school in 1817. George and his bride Rosann traveled to Canada where they settled in Montreal where George was engaged in the operation of a packet boat on the St. Lawrence River for many years. The couple later located New York, where Rosann Milliner Fairfax died in 1853. George Firfax passed in 1855. Both are interred in the Washington Street Cemetery in Geneva, New York.
