Our photos will likely do best to describe this piece except to advise that it emanated from an old and established collection as a Brandy Station excavation find. Stanley Philips has left us with just such an example in his classic reference Excavated Artifacts from Battlefields & Campsites of the Civil War) where he identifies the eagle rosette as Confederate. Charles Harris, in his Civil War Relics of Western Campaigns 1861- 1865 offers an example of another, excavated at the site of a Confederate camp at Boonville, Mississippi. He refers to the antique rosette as of pre-Civil War origin. A rare piece, in our opinion, likely of prewar origin but clearly of Confederate association. This example and the two published references referred to are the only three we have encountered. As with all direct sales, we are pleased to offer a no questions asked three day inspection with refund of the purchase price upon return as purchased! Thanks for visiting Gunsight Antiques !
