Manufacturer: handcrafted American antique
Classic early American iron work presented here in the form of hand wrought cooking utensils. This meat fork and boiled vegetable dipper or ‘skimmer’ as they were called, are clearly a set from the skilled hands of the same blacksmith and remain in excellent condition with no rust and an attractive age patina. Necessary to the preparation and ‘serving up’ of food over the open campfire or hearth in a time when cooking for large numbers was most frequently accomplished by boiling in large cast or sheet iron pots, this attractive pair will set equally well among items of American Colonial era through the Civil War period. The fork measures approximately 13 ½ inches in length and the skimmer 17 3/8 inches with pierced bowl of approximately 4 7/8 inches in diameter. A style well documented in history from Colonial collections to published references such as Stanley Philips classic Excavated Artifacts from Battlefields & Campsites of the Civil War. |
