Manufacturer: handcrafted American antique

This classic original tobacco hank is about 18" in length and is twisted with a wrap at the top to be hung for drying. Per Geo. Newman in his EARLY AMERICAN ANTIQUE COUNTRY FURNISHINGS the dried hanks (see illustration on his page 329) were hung in the home where their mellow aroma was considered health giving as well as discouraging "house pests". The handy tobacco hank would also serve as a ready source for the master’s pipe a the dried leaves were plucked off to be rolled and crushed in the psalms for packing in a favorite pipe. Unfortunately there is no way of knowing the precise age this original example but you will agree it is period. Natural age has taken away any aroma and had left a wonderful rich coloration. A most attractive wall hanging in any Colonial America through Civil War era setting. Will make a nice companion item for the antique pipe / cigar, smoking collector. please note: ALL ITEMS ARE CURRENT & AVAILABLE UNLESS MARKED SOLD!!.
