Manufacturer: American antique

This is an outstanding example of an American militia conversion of an early 19th century cartridge or fuse box (depending on the configuration of the tin or wood liner used) for use in the Mexican War period with potential utilization through the Civil War. This all original, unissued condition, Mexican War vintage conversion of a common earlier type, sports a larger and more protective tarred leather front flap with federal eagle plate. This flap replaces the earlier type narrower and thinner outer cover and a single belt loop and a longer more durable closure strap is fitted to close over an easier to manage brass button finial. The earlier wooden block was removed as part of the conversion and the box has no tin insert as you may expect . Though as you can see there is a bit of age defacing to the finish on the box face under the flap, the fine condition of this accoutrement is outstanding. One of those rare finds that likely lay fallow in arsenal stores for decades until deemed obsolete and removed from inventory without ever having seen issue. An exceptional piece for the American military accoutrement collector. We are pleased to offer a "no questions asked" three day inspection with return as purchased guarantee !
