Manufacturer: handcrafted antique
The popularity of battlefield visits as a feature of reunions created a natural market for souvenirs that enterprising veterans couldn’t ignore. Local veterans soon discovered that trinkets such as walking sticks, desk displays and the like fashioned of wood harvested from battlefield sites were easy sales to returning veterans. This neat little wooden cannon is just such a piece. By necessity, made in limited quantities, these relics of Civil War sites have become quite collectable with the earlier crude examples of individual craftsmanship the most desirable. This example is rather crudely fashioned from raw wood and measures approximately 6 inches in total length with ’ Fayetteville N. C.’ burned into the length of the cannon tube. |
