Manufacturer: American antique
This rather delicate looking walking stick measures 33 ½" in length and remains in excellent condition in every respect. Carried in the city gentleman style of the day and for quick defense rather than support, this slender stick would have been quite unobtrusive and disarming by virtue of outward appearance. It’s construction of thick leather washers pressed together on a spring steel shaft and bound by a heavy lead/pewter cap at the bulbous head and a finely tapered brass ferrule at it’s tip. By these features the slender walking stick was in actuality a quite respectable weapon. By parry and thrust of it’s pointed brass tip, less injurious but quite discouraging flat blow of the leather covered spring steel shaft ,or where and when appropriate, a potentially crushing blow of the weighted head the slender stick was sure to dispatch the advancing ruffian. All original and in nice condition with an attractive age patina. |
