This 1 ¼" diameter celluloid button was made for complementary distribution by the National Tribune to gathering veterans of the hard fought 6th Army Corps, Army of the Potomac. Given that the button dates to the 1910 / 1915 period when the number of surviving veterans still physically able to travel for reunion was growing thin, these celluloid corps badges were quite limited in number with surviving examples becoming quite desirable on today’s collectors market. This one remains in excellent condition with no fading, scratches or other blemishes. The original paper back insert ( COMPLEMENTS OF THE NATIONAL TRIBUNE etc.) remains in place. Collectors of Civil War veteran material will remember that the National Tribune was published in Washington, D.C. well after the war and served generally as the organ of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.). In more recent times, it morphed into what is now the Stars and Stripes. Of additional interest is the fact that we acquired this item some years ago from the personal collection of pioneer collector and widely published early Civil War scholar Dr. Francis Lord who authored the multi volume Lord’s Civil War Collectors Encyclopedia. A neat item for the Civil War corps badge or veteran collector.
